Tips on making great decisions

We've all been in that place where we second guess ourselves. We wonder if we made the right decision. What if I regret it later? How do I make better decisions?
Here are some tips to help with that...
1. Base your decisions on values, not beliefs
Beliefs are based on our past experiences, habits, your upbringing, and are therefore constrained by individual experiences and are not as adaptable to new situations. Alternatively, if you use values to make decisions, those decisions will align with the future you want to experience.
2. Weighing your options
If you're torn between your options and can't seem to decide, ask yourself what will you regret most if you don't choose it? You can also think of it in terms of opportunity costs. What is the cost or consequence of choosing one option vs another? Thinking about how you made similar decisions in the past, may also be helpful.
3. Ask for help
You may not always have all the answers or all the information you need to make the best decision. It's good to get a different perspective and the person you ask will appreciate that you reached out to them! You may also need to do some research (depending on the decision) to make sure you're making the best choice possible.
4. Overcoming guilt or regret
Once you've weighed the options, looked at them from different perspectives, and taken your values into consideration, try to get centered (meditation is a great way to do this) and ask yourself which decision is the right one. Go with what comes to you knowing you've done all you can, and try your best to let go of the outcome. There's only so much you can control. If the outcome is not what you were hoping for, take it as a learning experience, look for the positive in it, and know that everything happens for a reason. Try your best not to judge yourself but rather acknowledge yourself for making a tough decision. This will greatly reduce your stress and help you to move forward.
If you need help in this area or you're unclear on the next step in your career, and if you need the confidence and clarity to move forward boldly, I would love to help.
I'm looking for 10 smart, successful women to work with one-on-one for 8 weeks. If this is something you're interested in, click here to sign up for a FREE strategy session. I look forward to speaking with you.
Here's what one of my clients had to say about our strategy session:
"It was a complete pleasure speaking with you on the phone recently. Thanks so much for the time you spent with me and even though it was an introductory strategy call, I found that call with you very special. I think your work with woman is outstanding.
Since my brief call with you, I've had a lot more confidence on the phone calls related to my phone interviews, and more energy towards job hunting. I've also thought a lot about your input as it relates to procrastination vs. fear of failure, etc. All this was very insightful to hear from you. I'm very inspired by meeting you.
I actually do think you are the best thing that has happened to me in 2015 so far!
You uncovered some deep things and in that short call had great tips for me that I could use the same day. Since talking to you, I've had a lot more stamina and endurance to get back into job hunting related calls.
I'm very glad to have met you and thanks for considering me for one of the 10 women to work with in 2015! Thanks also for your encouraging energy and time."
